GENEVA - Bernard Gutting, 78, of Geneva died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton, with burial to follow in the Hampton Cemetery. Fr. Jim Miller and Fr. Jerry Condon will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4-7 p.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Bernard was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Trimbell Township, Wis., to Christ and Marie (Bednar) Gutting. He attended school in Beldenville, Wis. On Oct. 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Gorski at Ellsworth, Wis. Bernard was involved with dairy farming while in Wisconsin, and following his move to Iowa, chose to do construction work. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and took great interest in the Green Bay Packers football team.

Survivors include five sons, Robert and wife Mary Lou of Marshalltown, Edward and wife Kathy of Donellson, Christopher and wife Heidi of Ellsworth, Wis., and Lawrence and wife Holly and Philip and wife Sandy all of Geneva; five daughters, Debra Powers of Tomah, Wis., Lori Johnson and husband DuWayne of Bay City, Wis., Gloria Burnell and husband Bill of Centerville, Tenn., Bernadene Peacock and husband Richard of Wilmington, N.C., Mary Heldenbrand and husband Dave of Latimer; one brother; three sisters; one sister-in-law; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents; one sister; and three brothers.
