GRUNDY CENTER - August "Junior" Ascher, 62, of Grundy Center died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Junior was born June 6, 1941, in rural Grundy County to August H. and Anna (Christians) Ascher, and was raised on the family farm east of Wellsburg. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1961, and attended the Universal Trade School in Omaha, Neb. On Aug. 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Mary Rops at Christian Reformed Church in Austinville. The couple moved to their farm in rural Grundy County in 1966. Junior was an active member of Wellsburg Reformed Church, where he participated in many church mission trips, volunteered for many church projects and served as deacon. He was a member of Snittjer's Coffee Club in Wellsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; one daughter, Pamela Masiello and husband Mike of Ankeny; one son, Brent and wife Mary of Dike; four grandsons, Jonathan and Mark Masiello and Jacob and Nicholas Ascher; two brothers, Ed and wife Beth and Jim and wife Diane all of Wellsburg; two sisters, Thelma Ringena and husband John of Steamboat Rock and Annabells Schriever and husband Lloyd of Ackley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Teresa Rops.
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
