GIFFORD - Floyd E. Mooney, 61, of Gifford died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 21, at United Methodist Church of Gifford with Ronald Goecke officiating. Burial was at Sheppard Cemetery, rural Gifford, with full military honors by Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless No. 3974 of the V.F.W.
Floyd was born Jan. 10, 1942, in Union to James and Evelyn (Anselme) Mooney. He was raised in several communities in the Hardin-Marshall county area, and graduated from Eldora High School in 1960. Floyd was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force. On July 15, 1972, he was united in marriage to Joan Christians at Wellsburg. He worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown as a machinist and shop floor supervisor, retiring after 34 years of service in 2001. Floyd was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gifford and Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion. Attending auctions, exploring his family genealogy, researching the history of Gifford and bowling were some of his interests.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; a daughter, Lisa Mooney of Mission, Kan.; one son, Christopher, of Marshalltown; his mother, Evelyn Briden, and husband Richard of Janesville; three sisters, DeLores Vasey and husband Robert, Ada Sizemore and Ardis Mabe, all of Eldora; and one brother, Donald, and wife Marilyn of Gladbrook. Preceding him in death was his father, James.
Creps-Abels Funeral Home of Eldora was in charge of arrangements.
