ROWAN - Cleo M. Miller, 97, formerly of the Rowan area, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at the United Church of Rowan with Pastor Janet Wearda officiating. Burial was in the North Lawn Memorial Garden Cemetery, rural Iowa Falls. Memorial contributions may be made in Cleo M. Miller's name.

Cleo Marguerite was born July 2, 1906, on a farm near Rowan to William and Nettie (Walker) Duffy. She graduated from Rowan Consolidated Schools and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On June 4, 1930, she was united in marriage to Virgil Miller. The couple met during the six year period she taught country school in Vernon and Blaine Townships. They farmed in Oakland Township and later near Iowa Falls. After Virgil passed away in 1960, Cleo spent her time caring for others in Shell Beach, Calif., and Fairbault, Minn., returning to Rowan to retire. She enjoyed baking, entertaining the neighbor children, church activities, quilting club, canasta club, Progress Club and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her two sons, Donald and wife Sylvia of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marlin and wife Delores of Coalinga, Calif.; one daughter, Kathy Muhlenbruch, and husband Del of Dows; a daughter-in-law, Allalee Bubeck, and husband Dale of Clarion; a son-in-law, Floyd Ziesman, and wife Julie of Alden; two sisters, Dolly Barnes on Long Lane, Mo., and Betty Severson and husband Don of Jewell; one brother, Robert Duffy, and wife Wilma of Iowa Falls; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil; one son, John Miller; one daughter, Marilyn Ziesman; and two sisters, Susan Hammond of Rowan and Mildred Ketchum of Alden.

Dows Community funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements.
