HAMPTON - David L. Hovenga, 60, of Hampton died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 22, at First Christian Church in Hampton with Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery.
David was born May 4, 1943, in Dumont to Swear and Lorraine (Card) Hovenga. He was educated in the Ackley school system. On Jan. 13, 1962, he was married to Evelyn Schriever at Hampton. David was a self-employed painter. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hampton. His hobbies were hunting and fishing, but his greatest enjoyment was being with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Donna Uhlenhopp and husband Gary of Geneva, Dawn Shuler and husband John and Debbie Walterman and husband Jeff, all of Hampton; his mother, Lorraine Mannatt of Hampton; two sisters, Phyllis Frazier of Cedar Falls and Beverly Perez of Hampton; five brothers, Larry of Denver, Colo., and Jerry, Jerome, Russell and Paul all of Hampton; and five grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Janice, and an infant brother.
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of arrangements.
