BUCKEYE: Richard E. Engelson, 57, of Buckeye died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Buckeye with burial in the Buckeye Cemetery. Rev. Bob Miller will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. with the family present at this time. There will be a special memorial service at 8 p.m. by the Buckeye Fire Department. Memorials may be made to Buckeye Volunteer Fire Department/First Responders or the American Cancer Society.
Richard was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Fort Rucker, Ala., to Cecil and Billie Pilcher Engelson. He attended Alden Schools and on Oct. 5, 1964, he married Betty Van Hove in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was a mechanic for the City of Iowa Falls and was a volunteer fire fighter for 29 years with the Buckeye Fire Department. He was the director of the Buckeye First Responders for four and a half years and had served on the Buckeye City Council since 1998. He was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Buckeye.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Buckeye; two daughters, Lori Engelby and husband Brad of Roland and Teresa Stansbury and husband Andy of Steamboat Rock; a son, Scott, and wife Vicki of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, Jaimie, Joshua, Emily and Nicole; a brother, William, and wife Marilyn of Buckeye; and two sisters, Arlene Miller of Belize, South America and Susan Schade of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.
