IOWA FALLS-Edward G. Hartema, 79, of Iowa Falls, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 3 at the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa Falls, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Military honors were provided by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls.
Edward was born Aug. 26, 1921, at Macy, to Jerry and Minnie Getting Hartema. He attended Macy country school and the Robertson school. He served with the United States Army from 1944-46. He married Neta Behrens and after her death in 1955 he married Evelyn Welchko Siedsma on Feb. 26, 1956. They farmed and he also worked as a maintenance worker for Ellsworth Community College and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Iowa Falls; two daughters, Linda Larson and husband, Jon, of Iowa Falls, and Dorothy Johnson and husband, Rod, of Spirit Lake; one stepson, Robert Siedsma and wife, Rena' of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Neta; a sister, Tena Willms; and a son-in-law, Gregory Petrie.
Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
