IOWA FALLS-Ernest E. Wheeler, 67, of Iowa Falls, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Scenic Manor Care Facility, Iowa Falls. Memorial services were Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with Rev. Rhoda Preston and Darwin Cole officiating. Inurnment of the cremains were at Northlawn Memory Gardens, Iowa Falls. Military honors were provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls.

Ernest was born May 12, 1934, in Center Township, Decatur County, to Herbert and Marie Snyder Wheeler. He attended rural country schools, and married Dorothy Northway. They had five children and were later divorced. On Dec. 22, 1971, he married Sharon Monroe and they had five children. He served with the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1953. Ernie worked as a farm laborer and was last employed as a maintenance worker for Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls. He was a member of the disabled American Veteran's, and a past member of the American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose.

Survivors include an adopted daughter: Pam Thompson and husband, Terry, of Des Moines; five sons: David Wheeler of Iowa Falls, Ernest Wheeler of Dubuque, Roger Wheeler and Pete Wheeler, both of Des Moines, John Wheeler of Dubuque; three stepdaughters, Denise Bull of Des Moines, Deanna Carr and husband, Brett, of Iowa Falls, Donna Ites and husband, Curt, of Iowa Falls; a stepson, Don Monroe and wife, Missi, of Kamrar; 27 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; six sisters, Lois Crabtree and husband, Glen, of Aredale, Sharon Clemmons and husband, Jerry, of Mason City, JoAnn Engleking of Arizona, Kay Callaway of Texas; Joyce Gibson of Texas andSonja Nurmi of Oregon; four brothers: Herb and wife, Marlene, of Hubbard, Jim and wife, Connie, of Audubon, Ron, of Clear Lake, and Bob of Radcliffe. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.

Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
