CLARION-Kendall Herman Longley, 77, of Clarion, formerly of Dows, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the USA Health Care Center in Dows. Services were held Tuesday, July 31, at the United Methodist Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Rev. Tony Hershey officiated. Military rites were provided by the Dows American Legion Post No. 523.

Kendall was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Dows, to Klem and Linda Damerow Longley. He attended school in Dows until sixth grade when the family moved to Bremerton, Wash., where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army from 1943-45. After his discharge he attended the University of California in San Diego where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He taught social studies and driver's education for 35 years in the Sacramento High School. In 1991 he moved to Clarion and resided at the Meadows. He was a member of the Dows American Legion Post No. 523.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret, and husband Colonel Keith Sherman of Lacey, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Longley, of Grandview, Mo., and a cousin, Kaye Moore of Lincoln, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin brother, Klemme.

The Elledge Funeral Home of Dows, was in charge of arrangements.
