SHEFFIELD-Dorothy C. Bell, 80, of Sheffield, formerly of Dows, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Services were held Tuesday, July 31, at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, near Dows.
Dorothy was born April 6, 1921, in Grundy Center, to John and Anna Roline Sennfelder. She grew up in Grundy Center, Swea City, and Dows and graduated from Dows High School in 1939. On Jan. 24, 1942, she married Archie Bell Sr. in Blue Earth, Minn. The couple made their home in Dows for over 50 years, where they raised nine children. Dorothy was a housewife and her family was her first priority.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Hodge and husband, Robert, of Iowa Falls, Viola Claude of Dows, and Karen Thayer and husband, Larry, of Belmond; six sons, Archie Jr. and wife, Jeannie, of Madrid, Roger and wife, Cheryl, of Springview, Neb., Gene and wife, Mary, of LaClede, Idaho, Fred and wife, Pam, of Belmond, Chuck and wife, Cindy, of Dows, Jim and wife, Cindy, of Latimer; 39 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; one great-granddaughter; four brothers; and five sisters.
