UNION-Denzil A. Shaver, 82, of Union, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Eldora Nursing Home. Services will be held Saturday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bangor Liberty Friends Church with burial in Miller Cemetery, rural Union. Rev. Keith Haisch of the Bangor Church will officiate.

Denzil was born July 27, 1918, in Sullivan County, Mo., to Robert and Emma Rouse Shaver. He was raised in Missouri and graduated from New Providence High School in 1936. On June 5, 1937, he married Murine Glenney in Eldora. They moved to Newton where he was employed at Maytag a short time and then moved to Grinnell where he was employed as a farm hand. In 1941 they moved to the Liscomb/Eldora area where they farmed, and later to Whitten and Tama. In 1984 the family moved to Union where he opened the Buy & Sell Antique Store, which he operated with his daughter until his health failed a few months ago. He was a 4-H volunteer and had received the Farm Bureau Conservation Award while farming at Tama.

Survivors include a son, Arnold, of Union; a daughter, Karen Bachman, of Union; one brother, Gerald Shaver and wife, Betty, of Carthage, Mo.; four sisters, Ruth Slate and husband, Glen, of Marshalltown, Nadine Bodensteiner and husband, Leo, of Iowa Falls, Vera Bodensteiner and husband, Cletus, of California, and Connie Jelsma and husband, James, of Union; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Murine in 1998; a daughter, Shirley Grego in 2000; two grandchildren; and four sisters.

Biersborn Funeral Home of Union, was in charge of arrangements.
