ACKLEY-Esther Leona Burkle, 85, of Ackley, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services were held Thursday, July 19, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Geneva, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Rose Hermonat officiated.

Esther was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Grafton, to Herman and Antke Rademaker Richtsmeier. On May 24, 1939, she married John Burkle at St. Peter's United Church of Christ. She and her husband farmed near Geneva for over three decades until John's death on Jan. 28, 1974. She then moved to Ackley and had worked at the Presbyterian Village for six years. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and was active in the Ladies Circle and the sewing group.

She is survived by two sons, Stan and wife, Gloria, of Nashua, and Dennis and wife, Debbie, of North Platte, Neb.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Richtsmeier of Ackley, Erv Richtsmeier and Ralph Richtsmeier both of Babbitt, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; four brothers; and three sisters.

Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley, was in charge of arrangements.
