GRUNDY CENTER-Henrietta Kruger, 90, of Grundy Center, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Grundy County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center. Services were held Friday, July 13, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with burial in the Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland. Pastor Daniel Graham officiated.

Henrietta was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Grundy County to Joe and Rena Saathoff Hempen. She attended rural Lincoln Township school and Grundy College in Grundy Center. On Dec. 16, 1931, she married John Kruger at the Lincoln Center Church parsonage. They farmed in the Dike and Holland areas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center and a former member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Henrietta served as a volunteer reader to residents of the Grundy Care Center and enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by four sons, Lee and wife, Diane, of Ackley, Ray and wife, JoAnn of Cherokee, Vernon and wife, Sharron, of Grundy Center, and Jay and wife, Sue, of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Albert Hempen, of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a daughter, Byrna Kruger; a sister, Jennie Emkes, a brother, Herman, and an infant brother.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
