ELDORA-Donald L. Ayersman, 63, of Eldora, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Memorial services were held Friday, July 13, at the Chapel on the Hill in Eldora, with Pastor Scott Hibben of Oakwood United Methodist Church of Pleasant Hill, officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Donald was born July 23, 1937, in Evanston, Ill., to Bernard and Eleanor Bragdon Ayersman. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1954. On Sept. 17, 1983, he married Hatti Sparks in Pleasant Hill and they moved to Eldora in 1989. He had been employed as general manager for Yellow Cab Company, Heritage Cable Vision, Time Magazine, Inc. and most recently by DAYCO Manufacturing in Eldora. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Pine Lake and the Iowa River. He enjoyed Dixieland jazz festivals and had played drums and the bugle.

He is survived by his wife, Hatti, of Eldora; three sons, Michael Ayersman and wife, Deborah, of Polk City, Shawn Tough of Tacoma, Wash., and Brian Ayersman and wife, Erin, of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Susan Bartelt of Des Moines, and Michelle Vanderschoor and husband, Todd, of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Creps-Abels Funeral Home of Eldora was in charge of arrangements.
