Jan. 18, 1911-June 25, 2001

ELDORA-Lewis W. Lawler, 90, of Eldora, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center, Eldora. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora, with burial following at the church cemetery. The Rev. James Dubert will officiate.

Lewis was born Jan. 18, 1911, near Eldora, son of Frances "Frank" and Teressa Lyons Lawler. He was educated in the New Providence School System graduating in 1929. He was married to Mary Katherine Schafer on Feb. 24, 1938, in Iowa Falls, and they farmed in rural Union, moving to Eldora in 1978. Lewis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church being a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society, the Eldora Kiwanis, and he had served on the Heart of Iowa Telephone Board and the Lawn Hill Cooperative Board. He enjoyed gardening and growing roses.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Barbara Hanson and her husband, Harlan, of Ames, and Catherine Richards and her husband, Reid, of Bloomington, Ill.; three sons, Paul and his wife, Donna, of Union, Thomas and his wife, Elaine, of Parkersburg, and Charles and his wife Donna, of Union; three sisters; a brother, Richard, of Eldora; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; two sisters; two brothers; and two brothers in infancy.

Creps-Abels Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
