HOLLAND-Ralph DeVries, 88, of Holland, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls. Services will be Monday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor May Kenosian will officiate.
Ralph was born Jan. 6, 1913, in rural Grundy Center, to Henry and Ella Muller De Vries. He attended country school and on Jan. 6, 1943, he married Louise Harringa in Titonka. They farmed for over 40 years on the same farm, rural Holland, moving to Grundy Center in 1997. He worked for the Wellsburg School District as a mechanic and a bus driver for seven years. Ralph was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as deacon, council member, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. His hobbies were fishing, woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, of Grundy Center; a daughter, Ruth Knock and husband, Dennis, of Stout; a son, Robert De Vries of Windsor, Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gertie De Vries of Cedar Falls.
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
