Iowa Falls - Otis Bessman, 86, of Iowa Falls, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 5, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden, with burial at the Northlawn Memory Gardens, Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Otis George Bessman was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Buckeye, the son of Frank and Eda Runge Bessman. He was married to Clara Belle Nicholson on Dec. 17, 1937, in Mitchell. He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II. He farmed in the Owasa area until 1966, when he and his wife, Clara (Tootie), moved to Iowa Falls, where he worked for Hardin County until his retirement.
He is survived by his son, George of Belle Plaine; his daughter, Marge Hunt and husband Lee of Cedar Rapids; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gerald (Barb) Bessman of Hampton; three sisters, Mrs. George (Edna) Nicholson of Alden, Mrs. William (Erma) Burke of Bentonville, Ark. and Mrs. Thomas (Martha) Hetland of Radcliffe; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grand children, and two great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one son, Gerald; four brothers, Arthur, Leonard, William and Robert; and four sisters, Mrs. Vernie (Elsie) Brandt, Mrs. Wesley (Evelyn *Ella*) Russell, Mrs. Clifford (Esther) Nicholson, and an infant.
