Eldora Rites for Louise Ruhnke, 75

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 1, from St Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora for Louise Ruhnke, 75, who died Sunday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. (29 May 1988)

Rev. Maynard Spitzack officiated with Meta Balvanz as organist. Flower ladies were Mrs. Gail Hackney and Mrs. Walter Ziesman. Serving as casket bearers were Marvin Granzow, Melvin Nehring, David Minteer, Kevin Lange, Roger Ziesman and Martin Kasischke with interment in the Eldora Cemetery. Andrle and Creps Funeral Home of Eldora handled arrangements.

Louise Wilhelmina Ziesman Ruhnke was born in Eldora on August 14, 1912 to Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Goschke Ziesman. Her early years were spent on a farm in Pleasant township. After her mother's death Louise and her twin sister, Alma, were raised by their older sisters at the family's home in Eldora.

Following graduation from Eldora High School, she worked at the Eldora Variety Store. She was united in marriage with Herbert Ruhnke on September 16, 1940. One son, William Paul, and one daughter, Mary Louise, were born to this union. They farmed in Pleasant township for 30 years.

After Herbert's death, she remained on the farm until 1984 when she moved to Eldora. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving is her son, William and his wife, Laura, of Florissant, MO; one daughter, Mary and her husband, Marlyn Peet of Colorado Springs, CO; two grandchildren, Charm Ruhnke of St. Louis, MO, and Christopher Ruhnke of Florissant, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
