Luana
Dorothea Catharina Caroline Lienau, nee Brase, was born on (the) 22nd May 1831 in Germany and died on (the) 21st April 1910 in the home of her son-in-law Henry Knocke in Garner, and so reached an age of 78 years and 11 months. The deceased had a hard and worrysome life because she lost her parents as a very young child. In February 1857 she married Friedrich Diedrich Fischer, and they had 5 children, two of which died before their mother. She also lost her husband in March 1871.
She immigrated to America with her children in April 1883 and settled first in Guttenberg and came later to Luana, where she married Heinrich Lienau in 1892. They worked a farm there which they sold and moved to Postville where they lived from 1899 to 1907, the year in which her husband died. The deceased then moved in with her daughter in Garner, who looked after her until her death.
She is survived by three children Wilhelm Fischer, and the women (her daughters) Louise Nuhring and Knocke, and 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was buried by Pastor Otto Wappier in the Luana cemetery on Monday.
The text of her burial was: Isaiah 46: 4 -- "And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs I will carry you; I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you." (The wording is from an older Bible.)
Submitter's note: Dorothea was the mother of William Henry Fischer, Louisa (Fischer) Nuhring/Nuehring, Minnie (Fischer) Knocke and William August Fischer. William August Fischer died December 10, 1901.
