Corwith farmer dies following car-train crash
Corwith - David Johnson, 75, Corwith farmer, died Saturday at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital of injuries suffered Wednesday in a car-train crash near his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Church here. The Rev. Clarence Clason officiated. Burial was in the Corwith Cemetery with Boughton-Corwith Funeral Home in charge. Masonic Lodge 553 of Corwith held Masonic services Monday.
Born Aug. 11 1886, in Boxholm, Sweden, he was the son of Per and Augusta Munson Johnson. He came to work in Kossuth and Hancock counties and June 4, 1914, was married to Dagmar Sorenson. They farmed near Corwith all their married lives.
Surviving are eight children, Paul, Milwaukee; Mrs. Lee (Eleanor) Huff, North Ridge, Calif.; Mrs. Charpel (Lillian) Hauswirth, Ted, David Jr., James, all of Corwith; Jerry, Canoga Park, Calif; Mrs. John (Ella) Rathbun, Iowa City, and 19 grandchildren, four brothers, Carl, Weslty; Ted, Washington; Iver and Anton Johanson and a sister, Mrs. Alin Lund, Boxholm, Sweden.
His wife died in 1960. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Steigerwalt.
