J. C. Mortensen Rites Monday at Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake - Jens C. Mortensen, 63, well known farmer living between Crystal Lake and Britt, died Friday at a Mason City hospital following an illness of a year. He received surgery in March.
He was born Sept. 20, 1895, on the farm where he lived all his life. He was the son of John H. and Anna Paulsen Mortensen. He was married Dec. 31, 1924, to Evelyn Johnson at Mason City. They lived on the farm where he was born.
He is survived by his wife, a son John H., Britt; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Gladys) Anderson, Farmington, N. M.; Mrs. Gerald (Laura) O'Mara, Englewood, N. J.; two grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. J. B. (Ethel) MacFarland, Alton Loma, Calif.; and Mrs. Stella Turner, San Carlos, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Emilie Sorensen.
He was a member of the Crystal Lake Methodist Church; of the IOOF Protection Chapter 611, Britt; and was secretary of the schools at Crystal Lake 23 years.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, preceded by a prayer service for the immediate family at the Boughton Funeral Home, Britt. The Rev. Gerhard H. Jelmaas will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery.
