Mrs. J. E. Fraser Buried In Concord Cemetery Nov. 10

Came To Garner A Bride 43 Years Ago; Active In Church, Social Circles

Mrs. J. E. Fraser, for many years active in the social, religious and civic life of Garner, passed away at the home of her son, Floyd at Mason City, Wednesday afternoon, November 7. Death came as a relief to Mrs. Fraser after having spent many weeks of the late summer and early fall in hospitals where she underwent several operations.

Following are the facts pertaining to the earthly stay of Mrs. Fraser. She was born near Tipton in Cedar county, October 12, 1863. Her maiden names was Alfa Louise Stanton, daughter of George and Mary Stanton. When a young woman in her teens she taught school in Cedar county, Iowa, and Ogle County, Illinois. A little later in life, she accepted a position as clerk in a Rochelle, Ill., store. It was while a resident of Rochelle that she met J. E. Fraser, a young physician and before leaving Rochelle she became the bride of Dr. Fraser.

In 1891, Dr. Fraser and his bride came to Garner, the doctor having purchased the practice of Dr. J. E. Blair. It was here that she reared her family of two boys and acquired the reputation of being one of our town's best mothers.

Mrs. Fraser was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, and her church activities were at all times given first consideration. She was one of the organizers of the local D.A.R. chapter as well as a member of our city's social clubs.

For several months Mrs. Fraser's health has been failing, and after a clinic examination an operation was decided upon. She was aware there was but slight chance of her ultimate recovery, but in spite of this fact, elected to pass through the ordeal.

Mrs. Fraser's body was brought to Garner Saturday, November 10, shortly after the noon hour and at 2 o'clock a funeral service was held at the Methodist church. Her pastor the Rev. T. Ernest Hoon, was in charge. Many friends of Mrs. Fraser attended the service to pay their last respects to a woman who through many years had been an active worker for all things pertaining to the best welfare of Garner.

Surviving relatives are: Her two sons, Floyd, of Mason City, and Cyril, whose home is at Villa Park, a Chicago suburb. There is one living sister, Mrs. Geo. Stocking of Rochelle, Ill.

Relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fraserand family, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Fraser and H. E. Fraser and family of Davis Junction, Ill. Interment was in Concord cemetery beside the remains of her husband, Dr. J. E. Fraser, who passed away in July, 1928.
