Forest Citian died unexpectedly

Forest Citian Einar Gilbertson, 71, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday. [10 Oct 1981]

Einar A. Gilbertson, the son of Gustav and Mina Gilbertson, was born Dec. 26, 1909, on a farm near Thompson. He was baptized at United Lutheran church in Lake Mills, confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran church near Thompson and attended rural school in Newton township.

Gilbertson married Ruth Schneider May 10, 1935. The couple lived briefly in Hancock county, then moved to Forest City where Einar was employed by Sylvan Oleson Construction Company. Gilbertson later was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Winnebago county road maintenance department. After working there 28 years, he retired Jan. 1, 1976.

He was a long-time member of Forest Lutheran church.

Survivors include two children. Art and Sharon Gilbertson of Forest City and Richard (Janice) Peterson of Leland; a grandson, John Monson of San Clemente, Calif.; a brother, Leonard Gilbertson of Forest City; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, who died Sept. 21, 1971,, two brothers, William and George, two sisters. Edith and Emma, and three granddaughters.

Funeral services for Mr. Gilbertson were held Tuesday afternoon at Forest Lutheran Church in Forest City with the Rev. Dennis Schlicht officiating.

James Gilbertson was soloist and Mrs. Roger Hustrulid, organist. Casket bearers were Loren Anderson, Allan Gilbertson, James Gilbertson, Verne Lovik, Merle Severson and Herman VerHoef. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home handling arrangements.
