Mrs. Martha Spieker Died

Mrs. Martha Spieker while visiting her granddaughter, Mrs. Matt Platt, and husband at Algona, suffered a stroke of apoplexy Monday morning, May 8, and died in the afternoon.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon with a devotional service at the home of Lawrence Spieker near Hayfield, where deceased made her home, and the last rites will be conducted at the Methodist church in Crystal Lake at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas in charge. Burial will be made beside the grave of her husband in Evergreen cemetery, Britt.

Martha Dahlmann was born a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dahlmann at Ackley, Iowa, November 25, 1880. On May 31, 1899, she was married to Dick J. Spieker at Ackley. They farmed near Ackley for several years, then moved to Hancock county. They spent many years farming in the vicinities of Woden, Crystal Lake and Britt. Mr. Spieker died March 18, 1945. At death Mrs. Spieker had reached the age of 69 years, 5 months and 13 days. She is the last of her family.

Ten children were born to this union, five of whom preceded their parents in death. They are Della (Mrs. Ollie) Foertsch of Wesley, and Alden (Adeline), Helen, Martin and an unnamed son. Five children survive the mother. They are Mrs. Ann Hillenga, Algona; Mrs. Fred (Mary) Lassahn, and Jerry Spieker, Britt; Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Johnson and Lawrence Spieker, Garner. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
