Ruth L. Johnson, 83, of the Manly Care Center, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (May 17, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Frank A. Marino of the Phymouth Road Bible Church, and the Rev. Hubert Dahl, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday morning until time of services at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Ruth was born June 28, 1913, in Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of Steve H. and Mary (Chladek) Miller. Ruth attended schools in Cerro Gordo County. She married Homer H. Johnson on Oct. 29, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The Johnsons moved to Mason City that year. Ruth worked for Jacob E. Decker and Sons, Lyon's Laundry, and the Cerro Gordo Cafe. Ruth was a member of the Plymouth Road Bible Church, enjoyed canning, gardening and her grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Robert L. Johnson and his wife, Karen, of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Mary Ann Reed and her husband, David of Rochester, N.Y.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Wise of Mason City, and Vivian Dahl of Winterset; and one brother, Orville C. Miller of Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer, in 1994; one brother; and two sisters.
