Britt--Frank Johnson, 87, of Britt, died Monday (May 22, 1995) at Westview Care Center.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Britt, with a 7 p.m. service by the Odd Fellows.

Frank Louis Johnson, the son of John Herbert and Anne Mary (Baker) Johnson was born May 13, 1908, on a farm in Bingham Township in Hancock County.

After attending Bingham Township School No. 7, he farmed with his father and brother, Clyde.

During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945. He was in the North African and Italian campaigns where he was wounded and as a result, received the Purple Heart.

On Dec. 27, 1944, he married Mabel M. Spieker at Britt. They made their first home in Garner where he was employed by Engstler & Marksman for three years. He was then employed by the local utility company, now known as IES Utilities until he retired in the early 1970's. In 1955, Frank and Mabel moved to Britt.

He enjoyed vacationing with his family, fishing, playing cards and gardening.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, the Britt American Legion, the Britt VFW, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Britt Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel Johnson of Britt; two daughters, Janice Kay Haan and her husband, Charles Thomas of Stillwater, Okla., and Janet Fay Soboroff and her husband, Stephen S., of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Patricia Haan, Christopher Haan and his wife, Rie, and Pamela Haan and Shane Soboroff; a brother, Gilbert Johnson of Mason City; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Mason City and Marcella Johnson of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Herbert Johnson, Clyde Johnson and Homer Johnson.
