Services for Mrs. Sophia Lenz, 93, Garner, who died Monday at her daughter's home near Irvington, Iowa, were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday. December 10, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Merlin C. Petersen as officiant.
Mrs. Merlin Petersen served as organist. Ushers were Ray Radloff and Arnold Steege.
Casketbearers were: Robert Witham, Thees Schnakenberg, John Eness, Harold Juhl, Robert Bruns and Kenneth Gutterman. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner.
Mrs. Sophia Charlotte Lenz, the daughter of Ferdinand Samuel and Auguste (Radtke) Henslin, was born September 2, 1887, at Vernon Center, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Willow Creek, MN., and attended school at Willow Creek and Truman, MN. For several years she worked as a saleslady at a department store in Truman.
March 31, 1909, she was married to Frank A. Lenz at the German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Truman. After their marriage they moved to Garner and lived at the same home all their married life. After her husband's death, she continued to live in her home for 40 more years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garner. Gardening was one of her greatest enjoyments. She was proud to be the oldest and only surviving member of a family of seven children.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Dolores) Schnakenberg of Irvington; a son-in-law, Maurice Greiman of Clarinda; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, September 9, 1940; a daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Delilia) Greiman, Dec. 17, 1976; her parents; three sisters, Viola Henslin, Mrs. Lydia Zemple and Mrs. Alma Luckow; and three brothers, Edwin, Ferdinand and William Henslin.
