Funeral services for Galen E. Potter, 68, of Britt, who died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 19, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Robert T. Ellis as officiant.

Mrs. Tom Buns, organist, accompanied Warren Torkelson, organist. Ushers were Marvin Schoneman and Maynard Schoneman.

Casket bearers were Galen's grandchildren.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Galen Eugene Potter, the son of Thomas J. and Alta (Eikenberry) Potter, was born March 25, 1929, at Buffalo Center. After attending school at Buffalo Center he farmed in the area.

January 1, 1955, he married Alice Jean Stenersen at the Little Brown church in Nashua. They farmed near Buffalo Center for one year, near Forest City until 1978 and southeast of Crystal Lake until Galen's death, on May 15, 1997. He enjoyed his family and farming.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner.

He is survived by his wife, Alice J. Potter of Britt; five children, Elaine Deibler and her husband, Tom of Garner, Galen W. Potter and his wife, Jeannie of Hopewell, VA, Ruby Dodd of Garner, Cheryl Barkema and her husband, Ed of Garner, and Doug Potter and his wife, Deb of Forest City; 13 grandchildren, Matthew Deibler, Hilary Deibler, Hannah Deibler, Amanda Potter, Robert Potter, Jonathan Dodd, Joseph Dodd, Thomas Dodd, Jennifer Barkema, Karla Barkema, Kyle Barkema, Betsy Potter and Lindsey Potter; five brothers and sisters, Richard Potter and his wife, Agnes of Buffalo Center, Velma Severson of Forest City, Bertha Klassen of Phoenix, AZ, Thomas Potter and his wife, Ann of Buffalo Center, and William Potter and his wife, Janet of Garnavillo; a brother-in-law, Harry Adams of Lake Mills; and a sister-in-law, Florence Potter of Buffalo Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Adams; and two brothers, Benton Potter and Kenneth Potter.
