Hold service for Nettie R. Durby

Funeral services for Nettie R. Durby of Forest City were held Wednesday morning at Immanuel Lutheran church in Forest City. The Rev. John Hieronymus officiated.

Mrs. Robert Goranson was soloist and Norma Boomgarden, organist. Honorary pall bearers were Ronald Guhl, Randall Guhl, Tony Durby, Lon Durby and Larry Farland.

Casket bearers were Bruce Farland, Gary Farland, Michael Farland, Terrell Durby, Roger Guhl and Darrell Eastvold. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Durby, 90, died Sunday afternoon at the Lake Mills nursing home.

Nettie R. Durby was born March 13, 1894, on a farm near Roland to Elling and Anna Eide Rognehaugh. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Sept. 24, 1919, she was married to Palmer T. Durby in a double ceremony with her sister and Palmer's cousin, Mae and Levi Durby, by the Rev. G. E. Paulsrud of Story City.

The couple farmed for 40 years near Woden, Buffalo Center, Forest City and Leland. They retired in 1960 and moved to Forest City. Mr. Durby died Aug. 27, 1973, and since 1976, , Mrs. Durby had resided at the Lake Mills nursing home.

Mr. and Mrs. Durby were members of Immanuel Lutheran church.

Survivors include five children, Mrs. Albert (Dorothy) Guhl of Jewell, John Durby of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Dean (Ruby) Farland of Thompson, Merle Durby of Leland and Marlo Durby of Lake Mills; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Helen Sowers of Largo, Fla., and Mrs. Mary Afinson of Lake Crystal, Minn., and a brother, Nels Rognehaugh of Bricelyn, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, a, great-grandchild and three sisters.
