Funeral services for Willie F. Bartik, 87, of Britt who passed away Monday, January 3, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2000, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with Rev. Marvin Bries officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Brenda Smith who accompanied soloist, Jim Sweers. Ushers were Allan Doughan and Marvin Holck. Honorary bearers were Stan Sharp and Aaron Ryerson. Casket bearers were Larry Sharp, Jerome Ryerson, Brad Sharp, Jay Ryerson and Mike Niedert.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation was held Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt.

Willie Frank Bartik, the son of Antonin and Vozena (Kaiser) Bartik, was born October 12, 1912 at Britt. He graduated from Britt High School in 1932 and Britt Junior College in 1934. He then worked as a part of the Civilian Conservation Corps for a short time.

On Aug. 1, 1934, he married Leona Fern Arnaman of Centerville at Unionville, MO. They made their home in Britt. Willie served his country during WW II as a Sergeant in the 4th Marine Air Wing Division and was stationed in the Marshall Islands and Guam. After the service, he continued his business as a building contractor in Britt until 1955. He then became a construction superintendent until he retirement in 1977.

His hobbies included making clocks, gardening and caring for his three cats. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the International Bricklayers Union.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Bartik, of Britt; two daughters, Janice Sharp and her husband, Larry, of West Des Moines; and Francine Ryerson and her husband, Jerome, of Forest City; four grandchildren, Brad Sharp, Stan Sharp, Jay Ryerson and Aaron Ryerson; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; a brother Ernest Bartik and his wife, Marge, of Lake Havasu City, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bartik of Britt and Minnie Loo Bartik of Collins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Arthur Bartik; a brother Anthony Bartik; and his step-mother, Anna Bartik.
