Fred Haupt, Klemme Resident Died At His Home Tuesday

Born In Germany Greater Portion Of His Life Spent In Hancock County

Tuesday, about the noon hour, Fred Haupt, an old and highly respected citizen of Klemme, passed away. Death to Mr. Haupt came as a relief after he had suffered much from cancer of the liver.

Mr. Haupt was about 68 years of age, and the greater portion of his life had been spent in Hancock county. He was born in Germany but came to America when but a boy, and if we mistake not, he came direct to this county upon arriving in this country.

There are readers of this paper who will recall Mr. Haupt in the days of his young manhood. When a lad of but 16 years, he entered the employ of Judge H. N. Brockway of Concord, and for two years served Mr. Brockway. Leaving the employ of Judge Brockway, he started to work for J. M. Elder, a partner of Brockway's, and for ten years or more was one of the Elder household.

About this time he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Priebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Priebe, Sr. They moved to Wright county where they resided for two years and then returned to Hancock.

For the past fourteen years or since retiring from active duty upon his farm, Mr. and Mrs. Haupt have lived in Klemme.

Besides his good wife, Mr. Haupt is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Herman Schultz, Mrs. Elmer Schlei, and Miss Edith, who live at home. There are also three grandchildren and three brothers. Mr. Haupt was an uncle of Mrs. Chas. Engstler of this city.

Fred Haupt was a very kindly man. He found great pleasure in ministering to the welfare of others, and his deeds of kindness are many.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the house and at 2 o'clock at the Reformed church in Klemme.
