Agnes Nedved
1914-1996

Services for Agnes Nedved, 82, of Garner, who died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Thursday, Nov. 21, 10:30 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Clarence Johanns was lector. Mass servers were Ben Diekhuis, Matthew Urich and Troy Studer.

Music was provided by Mrs. Roger Kopacek, organist, who accompanied the St. Wenceslaus Choir, Vicki Loebig and Jamie Nedved. Ushers were Kenneth Paca and Leo Wellik.

Honorary casket bearers were grandchildren, Melanie Mitchell, Tom Smith, Vicki Loebig, Ed Smith, Mary Van Essen, Randy Weiland, John Weiland, Carleen Fettkether, Nicole Nedved, Kelly Nedved, Brian Nedved, Katy Nedved, Ingrid McConnell, Angel Hulse, Shannon Nedved, Matthew Nedved and Daniel Nedved.

Active bearers were grandsons, Jamie Nedved, Rob Hulse, Jeff Christianson, Michael Nedved, Douglas Weiland and Greg Smith.

Burial was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan. Visitation, rosaries and a Scriptural Wake were all held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 East 4th Street, Garner.

Agnes Magdalen Nedved, the daughter of Jilji J. and Rose Ann (Hejlik) Hrubes, was born February 1, 1914, on a farm near Garner. She attended the rural schools of Liberty Township.

July 2, 1935, she married Vincent V. Nedved at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed northwest of Garner in Garfield Township until they retired from farming in 1990. In September of 1992, they moved into Garner. Agnes enjoyed her family, music, baking, canning, flowers and gardening.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Catholic Workman's Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, Vincent V. Nedved of Garner; six children, Marian Smith and her husband, Richard of Iowa Falls, Elaine Weiland and her husband, Dean of Britt; Bernard Nedved and his wife, Suzan of Garner, Marlene Christianson and her husband, Larry of West Memphis, AR, Kathleen Hulse and her husband, Robert of Des Moines, and Gerald Nedved and his wife, Patricia of Garner; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Frank Hrubes and his wife, Alyce of Garner, Rose Johanns of Osage, Helen Malek of Garner, Elsie Vavrik of Garner, Mary Trca of Britt, Joseph Hrubes and his wife, Leona of Britt, and Clarence Hrubes and his wife, Joan of Garner; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hrubes of Garner.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Turner; a granddaughter, Sarah Christianson; a great-grandson, Stephen Fettkether Jr.; her parents; a sister, Emily Trca; two brothers, Raymond Hrubes and John Hrubes; a sister-in-law, Darlene Hrubes; and six brothers-in-law, James Zrostlik, Ernest Trca, Arnold Trca, Frank W. Vavrik, Sylvester Malek and Marvin Johanns.
