Services for Henry C. Bergman, 74, Britt, who died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1989 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, were held Monday, Nov. 6, 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Dennis Bailey and Dr. Steven Sorensen officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Ruby Hodson, who accompanied the congregation and a duet, Nancy Kaduce and Jill Schott. Ushers were Robert Hiscocks, Jr. and Harry Smith.

Honorary casket bearers were Robert Paulson, Harvey Nelson, Ed Reasoner, Cliff Broome, Frank Johnson and Bob Knudsen.

Active bearers were Mike Charbonneaux, Harry Champney, Richard Barker, Lawrence Smidt, Merrill Olson and Don Rasmussen.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Henry Bergman, the son of Berend and Anna Pierson Bergman, was born November 24, 1914 near Alexander. He attended school at Alexander until the family moved to the Britt area in 1921, at which time he continued his education in the Hutchins area. During World War II he served five years in the U.S. Army.

December 30, 1947, he married Helen Sorensen of Northwood at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was employed by Iowa Electric Light & Power Company in Britt for 27 years, retiring March 1, 1978.

Henry was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge #219 in Clear Lake. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren, reading and being close to nature.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Britt; two daughters, Laurine and husband, Robert Eden of Britt and Diane and husband, Doug Schlei of Mason City; a son, David and wife, Sally of Britt; seven grandchildren, Allen and Brian Eden, Andrew and Colin Schlei and Ben, Willie and Holly Bergman; two sisters, Grace and her husband, Clifford Nelson of Britt and Beulah and her husband, Ralph Riege of North Hollywood, CA; three brothers, John and his wife, Ella of Britt, Bennie and his wife, Bess of Des Moines and Charlie of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Delia Bergman and Pearl Robinson.
