Services for Irene Catherine Francis, 69, Britt, who died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Saturday, Jan. 2, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with Rev. Marvin Bries officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Brenda Smith, and soloist, Jolene Leerar. Ushers were Allan Doughan and Michael Kumsher.

Casket bearers were Bob Appelhons, John Francis, Paul Appelhons, Larry Francis, Jerry Francis and Paul Francis.

Burial was at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Britt, with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Irene Catherine Francis, the daughter of John and Katherine (Kress) Appelhons, was born October 23, 1929, in Britt. She attended Britt Community Schools.

October 16, 1948, she married Darrell Francis at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt.

Irene was employed at Hancock County Memorial Hospital and the Britt News Tribune. She later was employed by Winnebago Industries for 19 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards and putting together puzzles. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Britt.

Irene is survived by her husband, Darrell; a daughter, Diane of Britt; a son, Jim and his wife, Tina of Britt and their children Courtney, Callie and Cara; two brothers, John Appelhons and his wife, Emma of Thompson and Joe Appelhons and his wife, Donna of Britt; a sister-in-law, Tena Appelhons of Crystal Lake; and a brother-in-law, Lewis Fox of Britt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Paul Francis; three sisters, Elizabeth Haxton, Mary Fox and Barbara Jilek; and a brother, Jake Appelhons.
