Services for Clifford M. Nelson, 86, Britt, who died Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1:30 p.m., at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with Rev. Bill Culbertson officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Helen Jongewaard, who accompanied soloist, Jay Burgardt, and the congregation. Ushers were Gail Parker and John Hill.

Casket bearers were Connie Burgardt, Howard Funnemark, Ray Kumsher, Gale McNeese, Howard Kolstorf and Kenneth DeWaard.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Merle Nelson, the son of Emil and Nellie (Nelson) Nelson, was born December 30, 1908. He attended school in Orthel Township.

March 2, 1935, he married Grace Bergman in Britt. The couple farmed near Britt and later moved into Britt. Clifford was then self-employed as a carpenter and painter until he retired in 1988. He loved woodworking, making things for family and friends.

He was a long-time member of the Evangelical Free Church, serving as treasurer and also as an usher.

He is survived by his wife, Grace of Britt: two daughters, Beverly Kirschbaum of Britt, and Linda Nelson of Independence; two grandchildren, Mark Kirschbaum and his wife, Roxanne of North Beach, MD, and Deanna Manning and her husband, Mark of Urbandale; one great-granddaughter, Alicia Manning; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Edward Kramer; three brothers, Raymond Nelson and his wife, Donna of Clear Lake, Donald Nelson and his wife, Joy of Clear Lake, and Myrlen Nelson and his wife, Betty Lou of Britt; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Nellie Nelson; an infant sister, Dorothy Jean; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian Marvel Nelson Missal and Herbert Missal; and a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Nelson.
