Lyle Robert Fuller, the son of James David and Anna Laverne (Mosher) Fuller, was born August 15, 1923 on a farm near Jesup, Iowa. He spent his early years assisting his parents on the farm. He graduated from Jesup High School at the age of sixteen. Lyle then attended college briefly before returning to help on the farm. Prior to returning to college, he served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant during the occupation of Japan after WW II. After military duty, he returned to Iowa receiving his bachelors and medical degrees from the University of Iowa. On September 5, 1953 he married Jo Anne Thielen of Waterloo. After finishing his medical degree in 1954 they moved to Tacoma, WA where he served an internship at Madigan Army Hospital. In 1955, upon completion of his medical training, Lyle and his family returned to Iowa where he established his medical practice in Garner.

Despite a busy practice and a large family, Lyle was an active leader in the Garner community. He was instrumental in the planning and construction of Prairie View Retirement Apartments and Concord Care Center.

He also served in many other capacities including volunteering as an instructor for the ambulance service, functioning as the Hancock County Medical Examiner, serving as chief of staff at Hancock County Memorial Hospital for many years and working as a team physician for Garner-Hayfield High School athletics. In addition to this, he served two terms on the parents council at St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN and was a delegate to the Iowa State Medical Society. More recently, he was a steward member of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; his daughters, Teresa Brown of Iowa City and Susan Grove of Broomfield, CO; his sons, Joseph of Dubuque, Stephen of Appleton, WI, Mark of Solon, John of Stevens Point, WI and Greg of Omaha, NE; his daughter-in-law, Julie VanOort Fuller of Cedar Rapids; twenty-seven grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene Gunn of Newton.

Dr. Fuller was preceded in death by his son, Michel; his parents; and two brothers, James and Charles Fuller.
