Adam Schmidt Funeral Services
Services for Adam Schmidt, 85, of Garner, who died Sunday at Concord Manor Nursing Home in Garner, were held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 23rd, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. William N. Holzer as celebrant. Leonard Young was the lector and the Mass Servers were: Daniel Kadrlik, Daniel Huinker and Steve Kral. Ushers were Robert Kral and Rudy J. Fritsch.
Casketbearers were: Thomas Schmidt, Jeffery Schmidt, Russell Schmidt, Bill Haes, Francis Young, and Joseph Kern.
Parish Rosary was said Monday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner.
Adam Godfrey Schmidt, the son of Godfrey and Mary Ann (Lell) Schmidt, was born January 31, 1893, at Martian Feldt, Russia. September 4, 1910, he married Maria Stang at Martian Feldt, Russia. He came to the United States in June of 1912 on the ship, Nager. A year later his wife and son joined him at Topeka, Kansas, where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. They moved to Ft. Dodge where they lived for 16 years.
In 1928 they moved to Garner where they farmed north of town until they retired in 1952, and moved into Garner. He has been in Concord Manor Nursing Home due to ill health the past 5 1/2 years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Holy Name Society in Garner.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, Adam and his wife, Ann, of Chicago, Illinois, Joseph of Port Charlotte, Florida, Mrs. Phillip (Mary) Schmidt of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. John (Barbara) Metsig of Chicago, Illinois, John and his wife, Elaine, of Liberal, Kansas, Mrs. Don (Ann) Haes of Garner, Peter and his wife, Betty of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. George (Betty) Alt of Tempe, Arizona and George and his wife, Arlene of Garner; 32 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine; a son, Edward; his parents; 2 sisters, Mrs. Katie Alas and Mrs. Barbara Schmidt; and 3 brothers, Peter, John and Michael.
