Edward Boehnke, 84

Services for Edward Boehnke, 84, Garner, who died Saturday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, were held Dec. 11 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner, with Rev. Merlin C. Petersen conducting the services. Mrs. Doris Petersen served as organist.

Casket bearers were grandsons: Steven Hayes, Dean Hayes, Douglas Hayes, Jonathan Nissen, Richard Nissen, Charles McMillin, Roger McMillin, William Eginton, Robert Eginton, James E. Boehnke, Jr. II, Gene Greiman, Christopher Boehnke and Matthew Boehnke.

Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Garner. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Richard Martin Boehnke, the son of Gustav and Alvina (Woiwod) Boehnke was born April 9, 1895, on a farm northwest of Garner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church.

June 22, 1921, he married Elsie Pueggel. They farmed northeast of Garner. In 1937 his wife died and in January, 1942, he married Luella Bilstad. They continued to farm for eight more years before moving to Garner. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner.

He is survived by his children, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) McMillin, Grundy Center; Mrs. Ralph (Irma) Nissen, Ames; Mrs. Harlan (Marilyn) Hayes, Garner; James Boehnke and wife, Clear Lake , Donald Boehnke and wife, Omaha, Neb.; and Mrs. William (Kay) Eginton, Iowa City, 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Selma Pilz, Waterloo; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Martha Boehnke Garner; Mrs. Emma Pueggel, Garner; Mrs. Clara Bohn, Ventura; Mrs. Lena Boehnke, Sidney, Neb.; and Mrs. Louise Pueggel, Garner.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie and second wife, Luella; a daughter, Ruth, in infancy; his parents and three brothers, Otto Boehnke, William Boehnke, and Rev. Gust Boehnke.
