Rites held Tuesday for James Golbuff, 24

Funeral services for James John Golbuff, 24-year-old former Forest Citian, were held Tuesday afternoon at First Congregational church. He died Friday in Iowa City where he had been hospitalized for a short time.

The Rev. Paul Gabrielson officiated at the services. The Rev. Robert Evenson was soloist and Mrs. Evenson, organist.

James was born June 2, 1946, in Forest City the son of John and Pearl Nielsen Golbuff. He was graduated from Forest City high school with the class of 1964. James participated in all sports while in junior high and high school, quarterbacking on the varsity football team and playing at guard in basketball. His junior year, he was selected to attend Hawkeye Boys State and at the awards assembly for his graduating class he was honored with the Jay Brooker Memorial award as the outstanding athlete of the year at FCHS.

He attended Waldorf college, having received the Forest City Rotary club's scholarship, and was graduated in May, 1966, with "cum laude" honors. He attended the University of Northern Iowa for the next year and for the last three years had been employed by an interior decorator at Iowa City.

Survivors include his mother, a sister, JoAnn, and grandfather, Sam Golbuff of Mason City. His father preceded him in death Sept. 19, 1969.

Casket bearers for the funeral were John Brennan, James Carson, John Farrell, Douglas Guild, Ronald Ladd and James Shoop. Burial was in Madison township cemetery with the Olson Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
