Services for Liz Ann Hempe, ,17, of Britt, who died in an automobile accident near Duncan, Friday, Nov. 21 were held Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with Rev. John M. Gregory officiating. Lectors were Roger Kopacek and John Kopacek.

Organist, LaRae Hobscheidt, accompanied the church choir. Honorary casketbearers were members of Britt's senior class of 1987.

Active casketbearers were Dirk Halupnik, Rob Carlson, Don Finch, Marty Goepel, John Engstler, Tony Boothroyd, Jeff Hughes, Ron Finch and Rod Medved.

A Rosary was said at 7:30 p.m., Monday evening at the Carter-Ewing Funeral Home. Interment was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.

Liz Ann Hempe, 17, the daughter of Doris and Melvin Hempe, was born March 3, 1969 in Mason City. At an early age she moved with the family to Britt where she attended school.

Liz, a senior at Britt High School, was a flag girl in the marching band and played flute in the concert band. She was the Britt High School Band Queen at the 48th Annual North Iowa Band Festival. Liz was active in SES (Students for Educational Service), the newspaper staff, annual staff, FHA (Future Homemakers of America) and 4-H. She was a Homecoming Queen Attendant for 1986 and the statistician for the basketball team. Liz was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt and worked at the A & W Family Restaurant in Britt.

Liz is survived by her mother, Doris Hempe of Britt; her father, Melvin Hempe of Aurora, CO; three sisters: Cindy Hempe of Edina MN, Melanie Knowles of Britt and ReNae Hempe of Ames; two brothers: Greg Hempe of Aurora, CO. and Jay Hempe of Ames; two nephews: Justin and Nathan Knowles of Britt; maternal grandparents Vincent and Rose Kopacek of Britt and paternal grandmother Marilla and step-grandfather Andrew Jackson of Mason City; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Andrew Hempe.
