Roy E. Merchant services held

Funeral services for Roy E. Merchant of Forest City were conducted Friday at the Petersen Funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Domokos, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiated.

Mrs. Julie Scharper was soloist and Mrs. Ralph Johnson, organist. Casket bearers were Sylvan Meling, Norman Myre, Ronald Novak, Marlin D. Olson, Dewey Sowder and Dana Swanson. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery in Forest City.

Mr. Merchant, 71, died Sept. 18 at his home in Forest City.

Roy E. Merchant was born April 29, 1913, in Mount Carroll, Ill., the son of Harry and Anna Sword Merchant. After receiving his education in the Mount Carroll schools, he entered the U. S. Army and served in the Air Corps from 1941 to 1945.

Nov. 15, 1946, Merchant was married to Geneva Holcomb in Freeport, Ill. The couple moved to Forest City where Roy was employed as a auto-tractor mechanic for various Forest City businesses. He retired in 1974.

Survivors include his wife„ Geneva; a daughter, Mrs. Adrian Olson of Forest City; two sons, Larry Merchant of Mason City and Allen Merchant of Forest City; five grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Merchant of Lake Havasu, Ariz.

He preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Merchant.
