Services for Kenneth Juhl, 75, of Garner, who died Thursday, Oct. 25, 1990 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, following a long struggle with Lou Gehrig's Disease, were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Gamer with Rev. Fr. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Sr. Mary K. Doughan was lector.

Mrs. Ronald Kumsher, organist accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Robert Kral.

Honorary bearers were Paul Blong, Marc Blong, Dan Buchli and Randy Shoemaker.

Active bearers were Paul Juhl, John Juhl, Matt Juhl, Ken Bridges, Andy Juhl and Doug Lemke.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner, where a rosary by the Knight's of Columbus and a Scriptural Wake Service by the parish were held Friday evening.

Kenneth Schau Juhl, the son of Christian and Christina (Schau) Juhl, was born January 26, 1915 on the home farm south of Miller. While a small boy, he moved with his family to Forest City, where he attended elementary and high school. In 1933, they returned to the home farm at Miller, where Kenny farmed with his father.

November 12, 1935, he married Reta Knoll at Garner. They lived in Garner, where he worked for Hancock County in the road maintenance department. In October of 1942, they moved to Des Moines, where he worked for Floyd Valley Transport Company. From February of 1944 until he was discharged in October of 1945, he served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. November 14, 1945 he began working as a lineman for Hancock County R.E.C., where he worked for 27 years. He then worked for Forest City Municipal Light and Power Company until he retired in 1978.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Knight's of Columbus of which he was a Third and Fourth Degree member. He was also Faithful Navigator for the Fourth Degree Knight's of Columbus. He belonged to the Garner American Legion and was a life-time member of Edwin Jante V.F.W. Post and had been Post Commander of both organizations. He was a member of the Veterans Ceremonial Unit since 1947.

He is survived by his wife, Reta Juhl of Garner; his children, Duane Juhl and his wife, Sue of Fairbury, NE, Jerry Juhl and his wife, Judy of Fremont, CA, Mrs. Judy Pellet and her husband, Robert of Oregon,WI, and Dan Juhl and his wife, Roberta of Garner; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Norman Juhl and his wife, Ruth of Garner; his brother-in-law, Allen Hallett of Miller; many nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Juhl in 1938 and Nancy Juhl in 1961; his parents; 4 brothers, Merle Juhl, Melvin Juhl, Clifford Juhl and Peter Juhl; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Max (Susie) Douglas, Mrs. Raymond (Anna) White and Mrs. Allen (May) Hallet.
