Rites held Tuesday for Elmer Larson

Funeral services for retired Forest City area farmer, Elmer Larson, were held Tuesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church in Forest City. The Rev. John Hieronymus and the Rev. Ole Winter officiated.

Donald Meyer was soloist and Mrs. Naomi Winter, organist, for the service. Casket bearers were Monte Hefty, Harry Jorgensen, Brian Larson, Jon Larson; Tom Larson and Walter Petersen. Ushers were Robert Langfald and Glen S. Wilson Jr. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Larson, 85, had suffered from cancer for the past several months. He was taken to the Forest City hospital Friday where he died Saturday.

Elmer Larson, the son of Ole J. and Margaret Thompson Larson, was born Dec. 7, 1899, near Badger. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Badger and received his education there. March 24, 1937, he was married to Nellie Thompson in Mason City.

The couple started farming in Renwick and later moved to a farm near Clarion. In 1950, they moved to a farm in Linden township in Winnebago county. In 1979, the Larsons moved to Forest City. Mr. Larson took an active part in the farming operation with his son and son-in-law until recently.

Mr. Larson was a member of Grant Lutheran church where he served on various boards. When he moved to Forest City, he became a member of Immanuel Lutheran church. He also was active in the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie; their children, Mrs. Duane (Marjorie) Logemann of Woden, Mrs. William (Carolyn) Price of Forest City, Richard Larson of Clear Lake and Alan Larson of Forest City; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Also surviving are a brother, Oscar Larson of Humboldt, and three sisters, Alma Larson of Vincent, Mrs. Mabel Larson of Callender and Mrs. Pete (Ruth) Hefty of Humbodt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son. a sister, Selma Larson, and three brothers, Orville, Conrad and Joseph Larson.
