Albert Chizek

Services for Albert Chizek, 83, of Garner. who died Friday evening at Concord Manor Nursing Home in Garner were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 15, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Msgr. John Chihak as celebrant. Francis Rayhons served as lector. Mass servers were Dennis Chizek. Joe Chizek and Paul Chizek. Mrs. Roger Kopacek, organist, accompanied the church choir.

Ushers were Harold Knop and Bill Chizek.

Honorary bearers were grandsons: David Chizek. Wayne Chizek. Roger Chizek. Thomas Chizek. Warren Chizek. Robert Chizek, Joe Chizek. Paul Chizek and Dennis Chizek.

Active bearers were: Mrs. Gary (Mary) Thoms, Barbara Chizek, Mrs. David (Nancy) Frederick. Cindy Chizek. Mrs. Dave (Diane) Fenton, Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Frederick, Mrs. Dan (Wanda) McLaughlin. Betty Chizek. Catherine Chizek, Ruth Chizek and Shelly Thoms. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan. Rosaries by the Parish and Catholic Workman's Lodge were held Sunday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Albert William Chizek, the son of Albert and Veronica (Sernett) Chizek was born April 4, 1898 on a farm in Garfield Township. He attended the rural schools of Garfield Township. January 25, 1921 he married Mary Sophia Rayhons at St. Wencelaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed northwest of Garner until 1964 when they retired and moved into Garner.

He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Catholic Workman's Lodge and Farm Bureau. He served as a director of the Garfield Township Schools and was also associated with Hy-Cross Chick Company for many years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by 2 sons, Walter and his wife, Marceline of Garner and Clarence and his wife, Irene, of Garner; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Frank and his wife, Mamie, of Garner and 2 sisters-in-law. Mrs. Lillian Chizek and Mrs. Ella Chizek both of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, May 19, 1980; a son Edwin in 1972; his parents; 4 brothers, Joseph, William. Louis and Steve; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Emma Metz, Mrs. Anna Liska, Mrs. Lena Nedved and Mrs. Mary Liska.
