Services for Reta Juhl, 80, of Garner, who died Friday, February 19, 1999, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Lector was Pat Doble.

Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Carolyn Kumsher, who accompanied the church choir. Usher was Lawrence Engstler.

Casket bearers were Paul Juhl, Andrew Juhl, Douglas Lemke, Chris Juhl, Paul Blong and Kenny Bridges.

Interment was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Reta Agnes Juhl, the daughter of Ben and Cecil (Bryant) Knoll was born May 5, 1918, at Marshalltown. In her early years the family moved to a farm near Goodell and then to a farm near Ventura. She attended school at Ventura and Garner.

November 12, 1935, she married Kenneth Schau Juhl at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They made their home in Garner all but 1 1/2 years of their married life, during which they lived in Des Moines. Reta had worked at the Garner Community Schools in the lunch program for 17 years, retiring in 1980. They spent their winters in McAllen, TX until Kenny's death, October 25, 1990.

She enjoyed her family, friends, golfing, bowling, playing cards, ballroom dancing and square dancing.

She was a member of St Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by four children, Duane Juhl and special friend, Sue Meredith of Fairbury, NE, Jerry Juhl and his wife, Judy of Fremont, CA, Judy Pellett and her husband, Bob of Madison, WI, and Dan Juhl of Garner; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren and three sisters, Irma Haaf of Garner, LaVon Lemke of Garner, and Lorraine Swalve and her husband, Ray of Fremont, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Juhl, October 25, 1990; two daughters, Patricia Juhl in infancy, and Nancy Juhl; her parents; two sisters, Isabelle Dankbar and Elsie Dorenkamp; and a brother, Elmer Knoll.
