Services for Marie Roach, 90, of Garner, who died Friday, August 5, 1994 at Concord Care Center in Garner were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Fr. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Timothy Schmidt was lector.

Mrs. Carolyn Kumsher, organist, accompanied the St. Boniface Choir. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Robert Kral.

Casket bearers were: Roland Schmidt, Gerald Schmidt, Darl Schmidt, Ron Kumsher, Alan Albers and Larry Wise.

Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. A Rosary Society rosary and a Scriptural Wake Service were held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Marie Magdalen Roach, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Busch) Schmidt was born June 4, 1904 on a farm southwest of Garner. She attended the rural schools of Garfield Township, Garner High School for three years and then graduated from high school in Cherokee.

On February 7, 1928, she married Michael Martin Roach at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They lived in Garner most of their married life. Marie enjoyed her family, friends and gardening.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Garner Senior Citizens, W. S. Homemaker's Club of which she was a charter member and also belonged to several card clubs.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Jones of Garner; four grandchildren, Suzanne Johnson and her husband, Gene, of St. Louis Park, MN and their two children, Casey and Molly, Priscilla Meyer and her husband, James, of Belmond and their three children, Katie, Christopher and Jordan, Dennis Jones and his wife, Pamela, of Garner and their three children. Kwin, Kayli and Kade and Sallie Czaplewski and her husband, Matt, of Rochester, MN and their three children, Ryan, Reid and Robert; three sisters, all of Garner, Gertrude Schmidt, Erma Linda Schmidt and Ada Linda Schmidt and a sister-in-law. Gladys Schmidt of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Roach, January 31, 1986; a son-in-law, Melvin Jones, February 13, 1990; her parents, three brothers, Arnold Schmidt, Leo Schmidt and Alois Schmidt and a sister, Eulalia Albers.
