Lifelong Garner area resident, Donald G. Young, 58, died Thursday, June 29, 2000 at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Young were held Saturday, July 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner. The Rev. John W. Hemann officiated. Lector was Phil Garland. Music was provided by organist Carolyn Kumsher who accompanied the church choir. Lawrence Engstler ushered.

Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Bob Pavelka, Jerry Pavelka, Tom Huinker, Jim Huinker, Gary Chizek, Kenneth Chizek, Marvin Young, Ron Young, Ed Becker, Mike Becker.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Donald George Young was born Oct. 10, 1941 at Garner. He was the son of Joseph and Rose Marie (Klesel) Young. He graduated from Garner High School in 1960 and began farming west of Garner with his parents. He served in the National Guard from 1967 to 1973.

On April 17, 1968 Donald Young and Jean White were married at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. The couple lived and farmed west of Garner until the time of his death. He enjoyed his family, playing cards and visiting with friends.

Mr. Young was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Workmans Lodge and the Garner American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Garner; three children, Todd Young of Duncan, Tracey McNamara and her husband, Deon, of Garner, and Tom Young of Duncan; three grandchildren, Dakota and Montana McNamara and Kaden Greiman.

Survivors also include four sisters, Evelyn Pavelka of Britt, Dorothy Huinker of Garner, and Margaret Becker and her husband, Alvin, of Wesley, and Lorraine Chizek of Britt; a brother, Paul Young and his wife, Margaret, Garner; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers-in-law, James Pavelka, Alvin Huinker, and Arthur Chizek.
