Services for Oscar H. Wenck, 95, of Garner, who died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1988 at Concord Manor Care Center in Garner were held 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 24 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with Rev. Msgr. Roger E. O'Brien as Celebrant. Sr. Mary K. Doughan was lector.

Mrs. Ronald Kumsher, organist, accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Robert Kral.

Casket bearers were Lawrence Engstler, Marvin Engstler, LuVerne Jante; Dale Maley, Dr. R.J. Ryan and Wencl Kadrlik.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Oscar Harry Wenck, the son of Joseph and Emma (Seiler) Wenck, was born July 24, 1893 at Plainfield, IL. In 1899, he moved with his family to Garner where he attended the Garner Community Schools. Oscar worked in Iowa and Missouri in road construction for five years and then as a self-employed plumber until he retired in 1950. He had received the Purple Heart while serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWI in the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Garner American Legion and the Garner V.F.W.

He is survived by his nephew, Joseph Edward Wenck of Garner and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dr. Maude H. Wenck, May 27, 1986; and two brothers, Frank Wenck and Edward Wenck, April 11, 1977.
