Services for Martha J. Clement, 80, Forest City, who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, were held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Forest City with Revs. John Fuller and George Kalb officiating.

Music was provided by Carol Tweeten, organist, and Jim and Lorraine Amelsburg.

Honorary bearers were Gary Clement, Spencer Clement, Craig Clement, Bruce Clement, Stuart Clement, Douglas Clement, Ronald Kester, LeRoy Kester, Jerry Kester and Charles Cantrall Jr.

Active bearers were Ted Hall, Merle Hall, Brian Price, Duane Schutter, Daryl Hanna and Jeff Gerdes.

Burial was at the Madison Township, Cemetery, Forest City with Petersen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Martha J. Clement, the daughter of Ula J. and Elsie Maude (LaRue) Cantrall, was born July 6, 1917, in Clear Lake. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. She attended Forest City School and graduated from Waldorf College in 1937. Martha taught country school for four years in Ellington Township. In 1941 she took a job as bookkeeper with the REA in Garner.

March 18, 1942, she married John R. Clement. The couple farmed south of Miller until 1951 when they moved to a farm on the River Road. Martha was an active partner in the farming operation. From 1964 to 1980 she worked as a bookkeeper at Winnebago Industries.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women's Missionary Society and for 10 years was the church treasurer.

Martha entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in September of 1991. Sitting in the lobby, she enjoyed acting as the unofficial greeter of the center.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Merle and Sandy Clement of Forest City; a brother, Art Cantrall of Grand Terrace, CA; a sister-in-law, Edith Cantrall of Forest City; two grandchildren, Scott Clement and his wife, Julie of Carbondale, IL, and Heather Clement of Forest City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, who died in 1984; a son, Roger; two brothers, Irving and Jack Cantrall; and a sister, Charlotte.
