Funeral services for Edward Holecek, 93, of Algona, were conducted at 10, Wednesday, April 3, at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Algona. The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Nash, and the Wilson Funeral Home of Algona was in charge of arrangements. The graveside service at St. John's Cemetery in Duncan was conducted by Msgr. John Chihak. Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Post No. 315.

Honorary bearers were Bill Kuhn, Sr., Robert Immel, Allen Wagner, Mike Hofer, Wilbur Zeigler, Jim Elbert, Leo Frankl and Lyle Steele. Casket bearers were Jerry Kern, Clyde Holecek, Glenn Holecek, Robert Nedved, Ken Hackbarth and Robert Munger. Mr. Holecek died Monday, April 1 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Edward Holecek was born April 18, 1891, at Pozin, Nebraska. The family moved to several locations before settling on a farm south of Hayfield. He received his education in rural schools, and later he and his brother followed the harvest season in the Dakotas. After serving in the United States Air Force during World War I, he worked for a time in South Carolina shipyards. When he returned to Iowa, he worked as an electrician and operated the Radio Shop in Algona.

On June 17, 1947, he married Betty Zrostlik at Duncan. He operated Holecek Electric in Algona until retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Izaak Walton League, and Hagg-Turner Post No. 90 of the American Legion. Fishing was his favorite hobby.

Holecek is survived by his wife, Betty, one daughter Patricia, Mrs. Jack Hendricks, of Algona, one grandson, Ron Lane, and one brother, Charles Holecek, of Hayfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, six brothers, and two sisters.
